On February 13, in the city of Irapuato, SITIMM held its Ordinary Union Council Assembly, attended by more than 700 union representatives from 170 companies in the region.
The purpose of the Assembly is to report on the progress, achievements, results, commitments and challenges SITIMM has faced in recent months. Unity in union work has been a fundamental driver of the organization's growth, which today serves more than 70,000 affiliated workers.
The Secretary-General of SITIMM, Alejandro Rangel Segovia, delivered the welcome address to the union delegates from the various sections.
During his remarks, Alejandro Rangel Segovia reported that at seven workplaces raises of between 15% and 20% were secured, benefiting 4,291 employees, and that the union added nearly 70,000 members.
In a year the union itself anticipated as challenging due to economic pressures in the automotive industry, the Union of Metallurgical, Automotive, Similar and Related Industry Workers of the Mexican Republic obtained wage increases of up to 20% in seven companies during the 2026 contract negotiations.
Between late October, November, December and what has elapsed of January and February, the union closed 46 contract reviews — 30 covering wages and benefits combined, and 16 wage-only — directly impacting 28,151 workers.
Additionally, at seven workplaces raises landed between 15% and 20% (4,291 employees benefited). At 24 companies increases ranged between 10% and 15%, at eight more between 8% and 10%, and only in seven contracts adjustments stayed between 6% and less than 8%.
